Lifting Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Lifting Supervisor to oversee all lifting and rigging operations on our offshore/onshore oil and gas project. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all lifting activities, ensuring strict adherence to company policies, industry regulations (including LOLER/PUWER equivalents), and the OPITO Rigger Competence (Stage 3) standards. This role requires exceptional leadership, planning, and communication skills to manage the lifting team and coordinate complex lifts in a dynamic environment.

• Lifting Operations Planning & Execution:
  • Review and approve Lifting Plans and Risk Assessments for all routine and non-routine lifting operations.
  • Ensure all personnel involved in the lift, including Riggers, Banksmen/Slingers, and Crane Operators, are competent and fully briefed on the plan, hazards, and emergency procedures.
  • Direct and supervise all lifting and rigging activities, ensuring the load is correctly rigged, lifted, moved, and set down according to the approved plan.
  • Verify the accurate assessment of load weights and centers of gravity, especially for complex or unusual lifts.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Serve as the focal point for all lifting safety matters and be present throughout all lifting operations.
  • Implement and enforce the site's Lifting & Hoisting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct pre-lift Toolbox Talks to discuss the lifting plan, potential hazards, control measures, and individual roles.
  • Inspect all lifting equipment, lifting accessories, and the lifting appliance (crane) to ensure they are certified, color-coded, free of defects, and suitable for the task.
  • Immediately stop any lifting operation deemed unsafe and report incidents/near misses as per company procedure.
• Documentation and Control:
  • Manage the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system requirements related to lifting operations.
  • Maintain accurate records and sign-offs for pre-use checks, lift plans, and post-lift reports.
  • Ensure all lifting equipment certificates and maintenance records are current and available on site.
• Team Leadership and Communication:
  • Act as the primary communication link between the crane operator, the rigging team, and other supervisors/management.
  • Mentor and coach junior Banksmen/Slingers and Riggers to promote safe working practices and competence development.

• Mandatory Certification:
  • OPITO Rigger Competence (Stage 3) Certificate (or equivalent, to confirm competence in planning and leading complex rigging and lifting operations).
  • Formal Lifting Supervisor/Appointed Person certification (e.g., LEEA, other industry-recognised certification).
• Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in lifting and rigging operations within the Oil and Gas industry (offshore experience preferred).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience directly supervising complex and critical lifts.
  • Proven experience in reviewing and developing detailed written lifting plans.
• Knowledge and Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of international and local legislation and standards governing lifting operations (e.g., LOLER, ASME B30 series, BS 7121).
  • Strong technical understanding of crane capabilities, stability, rigging principles, load distribution, and calculation of sling angles and forces.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in risk assessment techniques and hazard identification specific to lifting operations.

• This is a project-based role requiring a rotation schedule (e.g., 28/28 or similar) for continuous coverage.
• Work environment includes exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and the physical demands associated with an active construction or operations site.
