Exploration Manager

Grupo Simples is recruiting an Exploration Manager to lead our onshore upstream operations in Angola. This senior role is responsible for driving the discovery, development, and monetization of hydrocarbon resources, ensuring technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and alignment with international best practices.

Responsibilities:

 Provide  strategic leadership and oversee exploration, drilling, completions, and testing activities; Lead and develop a multidisciplinary subsurface team (Geologists, Geophysicists, Reservoir & Drilling Engineers);Manage end-to-end well operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost control;Approve well designs, drilling programs, and technical evaluations;Ensure strict adherence to HSE standards and operational integrity across all projects;Optimize resource utilization – rigs, logistics, personnel, and equipment – to maximize efficiency and minimize NPT; Drive the development of short- and long-term exploration strategies aligned with company growth plans;Review and approve contractor proposals, tenders, and technical studies; lead technical-commercial negotiations;Promote continuous improvement in geoscience and drilling practices, leveraging new technologies and data-driven methodologies;Build strong relationships with JV partners, APNG, MIREMPET, and regulatory bodies;Represent the company in partner, concessionaire, and government meetings, presenting budgets, work programs, and technical proposals;Mentor and integrate national staff, fostering capacity building and supporting Angola's local content objectives;Conduct regular site visits and audits to ensure compliance, performance, and safety;Act as a senior advisor to the COO, providing insights on exploration outcomes and operational risks. Qualifications:
      Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geoscience, or related field (Master's/MBA preferred);20+ years of oilfield experience, including 12+ in managerial roles;Proven track record leading multi-rig, multi-well campaigns;Expertise in well design, directional drilling, completions, and well testing;Strong knowledge of HSE standards, regulatory compliance, and international codes (API, IADC, ISO);Excellent leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills;Fluency in English required; Portuguese is an advantage.
