For every child, the right to, Protection
How can you make a difference?
UNICEF in collaboration with MASFAMU and UNFPA, developed a girl-to-girl program, Minha Kamba, which is being piloted in Viana and Icolo-Bengo. This girl-to-girl approach is rooted in the understanding that adolescent girls often respond positively to peer-led interventions, as they feel more comfortable and open discussing sensitive topics with their peers. By harnessing the power of peer influence and support networks, the program aims to create a safe and empowering environment where girls can freely express themselves, share experiences, and access information and resources relevant to their lives. This is supported by the development of government initiatives to keep girls in school, access learning and employment opportunities and access information and referral to services that are protective of their health and their wellbeing.UNICEF is recruiting a qualified designer to develop a high-quality and engaging Logo for the Minha Kamba Program to position and promote girls' access to comprehensive information on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and to protection.
Adolescents, and girls in particular, are vulnerable to early sexual debut, unprotected sexual intercourse, multiple sexual partners, and low and inconsistent contraceptive use. Adolescent girls also face an elevated risk of gender-based violence (GBV) - 10% of girls under 24 reports having experienced sexual violence - and child marriage (30% of girls under 18). These factors, combined with harmful social norms and cultural practices, gender inequities, and structural drivers such as poverty and violence, place adolescent girls at risk of early and unintended pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections (including HPV) and protection challenges.
