Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Peace and Development Specialist to join our team at FDFA - Peace and Human Rights Division (PHRD). This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to our efforts in promoting peace and development in Angola.

About the Role

The Peace and Development Specialist will work closely with our team to provide political and programmatic advisory services to the UN Country Team and Headquarters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and development, with experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or similar contexts.

The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing political and socio-economic developments, providing strategic advice to the Resident Coordinator, and supporting the formulation of effective programs that promote peace and development. They will also establish and maintain partnerships with key national stakeholders, regional and international actors, and development partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze political and socio-economic developments, identifying opportunities for inclusive peace and development efforts
  • Provide strategic advice to the Resident Coordinator, UNCT, and HQ on integrated approaches across the UNCT in the context of SDG 16 – Peace Justice and Strong Institutions
  • Support the design and facilitation of national multi-stakeholder processes, building national and local capacity for negotiation, mediation, and dialogue
  • Establish and maintain networks and strategic partnerships with key national stakeholders, regional and international actors, and development partners
Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant field, such as international relations, conflict resolution, or development studies
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and development, with experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa or similar contexts
  • Proven policy, advisory, and advocacy experience, with a track record of engagement with government, regional and international organizations, United Nations, and development partners
  • Excellent knowledge of and extensive work experience in the Sub-Saharan Africa subregion or in a similar context, preferably in conflict, post-conflict, and transition settings
